Introduction

Durban’s uShaka Sea World is home to a family of bottlenose dolphins. The South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR) cares for dolphins, and animal welfare is SAAMBR’s highest priority. To study dolphin behaviour to support their welfare, the SAAMBR periodically needs to observe the dolphins for 24 hours a day. The challenge was to observe dolphins under low-light conditions, with a user-friendly interface. Previously, low light, non-infrared, night-time footage was not available. Night-time camera footage would make it possible to analyse dolphin behaviour around the clock. Durban, a sub-tropical city on the east coast of South Africa, is the home town of Cathexis. We were happy to donate the licenses to assist in the observation and analysis of dolphin habits, doing our part to support dolphin welfare.
